Advice:
1. As soon as you will walk in the studio you will know if it is right for you. We chose Danzport because we felt comfortable there.
2. The inevitable question is: do you have a song? We didn't, we just wanted to learn how to dance, and not for only 1 song, but the whole night. Fear studios who want you to have a first song already picked out because the song might be too long, or won't work with the style you might want to learn.
3. Go early. So many studios were happy we went early. Dancing is not a 2 lessons deal. If you want to master more than 2 moves you will need many more. Partnership is something to develop.
4. Go to the local dance clubs. They offer free/cheap introductory classes, good to know what dances you want to learn. There is not point to spend your money on a private lessons to go over the basics. We went to the Turnverein for West Coast and Lindy.
5. Don't sign up straight away for a package. Before go to the group lessons and test a couple instructors. We loved the guy we had until a women took over the lesson... and we liked her a lot better.
6. Enjoy yourself and don't get mad at each other. Girls, it is fustrating when your man doens't know what to do, but he has a lot more to handle.. it is not easy to lead.
I recommend Danzport studio with Val.
