Should we send Save the Date?

Save the date.. something new for me. Again! Hard to be the bride who has to organize it all and has no clue of what should be done.
Even though we were getting married abroad we didn't not send save the date. We figured:

1. Everyone flying for the wedding was close family and friends, they knew about it as soon as we decided on the location.
2. We sent the invitations in March (5 months before the wedding), early enough to organize a trip.
3. I just didn't know I had to make some.

I just don't believe save the date are necessary, cute but just not worth it.
