That was the hardest to figure out and as we were sending the invites early we had to get it done before that! We went through many options:
- We went the a wedding in France about 2 years ago where they had set up a bank account but it wasn't presented like that. We just went on a website, and picked a category we wanted to spend money on: eletronic, honneymoon, china... the money went to a bank account, but we felt like we were contributing toward something. People love giving gifts, they want to know what they can contribute to the couple's new life, money is unpersonnal. Living abroad, we didn't want gifts because you can't travel with a couch, and can't use your new vacuum on a 220 outlet! And we didn't want people to just give money straight up to a bank account. Unfortunately this method doesn't exist anymore!
- We looked if it was possible to do that in the US, it is not.
- Just ask for cheques.
- Do a registry in the US and ask money from France.
- Have 2 registries, 1 in France, 1 in the US.
Macy's Registry: because they were the only ones to offer the china we wanted.
Galeries Lafayette: because it is one of the main stores in France (lots of choices).
